Method

1.       Firstly I created my wig before I applied it on my model.

2.       I started with a quiff at the top of the head and secured with a bobby pin.

3.       It was then ready to be applied.

I had to leave quite a lot of the wig until the day I was shooting because I needed to use my models hair in the wig.  I gathered the hair into a side ponytail and secured with a band.  I used some more bands down the ponytail to section it off.  I then used gold spray around each band to add some definition, and used the snazzaroo to blend the models hair in.

Method

2.       I started with a quiff at the top of the head and secured with a bobby pin.

3.       It was then ready to be applied.

Application

•             Make a circle of hair to keep out to incorporate into the wig

•             Then French plait the centre of the hair, making sure they are as flat as possible

•             Apply the stocking cap making sure all hair including side burns are tucked in

•             Use pintail comb to tuck in

•             Fold wig in half and pin to centre of the head using thick bobby pins

•             Use wiggly pins to go in flat and push in

•             Base, sides, 1 at front

•             Then smaller pins round the side

I had to leave quite a lot of the wig until the day I was shooting, as I needed to use my models hair into the French pleat.  I gathered all of the hair, leaving a small piece out to curl as I wanted to have one piece of hair kept out.  I the wrapped the hair around my hand and styled it into a French pleat.  Whilst I was working on the make up I curled one piece of hair and pinned it until it cooled.  Then I added the facepaint to help the hair blend in.  Lastly I finished with hairspray and a spritz of gold.

I found creating this wig a little more tricky as I was doing it on my model, but I just had to make sure it was secure so it didn’t move whilst it was on her head.

Method

3.       I then created the chignon at the bottom of the head and pinned it into place.

4.       Then it was onto the plaits and twists. I created an even number of them at the back of the head and secured them into the chignon.

5.       It was then ready to be applied.

Application

•             Make a circle of hair to keep out to incorporate into the wig

•             Then French plait the centre of the hair, making sure they are as flat as possible

•             Apply the stocking cap making sure all hair including side burns are tucked in

•             Use pintail comb to tuck in

•             Fold wig in half and pin to centre of the head using thick bobby pins

•             Use wiggly pins to go in flat and push in

•             Base, sides, 1 at front

•             Then smaller pins round the side

I then incorporated my models hair into the wig and made it blend in as best I could by using the face paint.  Then I added the gold hairspray onto the plaits and twists.  Lastly using a toothbrush and hairspray, I smoothed down the fly away hairs.

 

I was very happy with my first wig application I felt everything went to plan and I achieved the look that I wanted to create.

Equipment

Method

1.       Firstly brush out all the hair to get rid of all the knots.

2.       Then, I sectioned the hair into a middle parting and left two small pieces out at the front for the curls.

3.       I then worked through the hair starting at the top, setting it in brickwork pattern on each side of the head securing them with grabbies.  Use the tail comb to make sure all the wispy bits of hair are in.

4.       Place two smaller rollers in the sections at the front of the head and then leave them all to cool.

5.       Once they are all cool, remove all the rollers and brush out.

6.       With the two sections at the front of the head, I curled them up like a pin curl, and subtly pinned them into place so they wouldn’t move.

I enjoyed creating this design because I like doing roller sets.  If I was to do this again, I would make sure I didn’t have drag when setting the rollers because I didn’t get the lift I wanted and there was a slight dip in the hair.

Gold spray

I wanted to use gold spray in my hair design and tested it out.  I am pleased with the way it came out when I practised so I decided to use it in my final design.

 

Plaits

I experimented with different size plaits for my final design, as I wanted them to look prominent but not be too large.  I decided to go for the medium size (left)

Colouring

I practised with aquacolour (left), snazaroo (right) and greasepaint (middle).  I found the greasepaint was a bit too greasy to use on the hair and was going to leave a shine when I took a picture.  I decided to go with snazaroo because the colour was just slightly stronger in my opinion that the aquacolour.

Equipment

Method

1.       Firstly brush the wig and decide where you want your parting, I was using half my wig so I didn’t need a parting.

2.       I then decided what setting pattern I wanted my rollers in, which is the picture above.

3.       I wanted volume on the top then the bottom to come up as it was going into a chignon.

4.       Using the comb, I did each section, securing the roller with big wig pins that pushed into the wig block.

5.       Once all my rollers were in place, I needed to steam them to set them because the wig is nylon, you can’t use heat on it as it will burn.

6.       I left the wig to dry for 3-4 days so I knew it would be completely bone dry before I removed the rollers.  It is important to wait for the wig to dry so the curls don’t drop out.

I found it quite tricky to set the rollers as there were so many wispy hairs with a nylon wig.  But I kept at it and used my tail comb to help me.

Method

1.       Firstly, work out what direction you would like your curls to fall once you have taken the roller set out.

2.       Next plug in the heated rollers and wait for them to warm up.

3.       Start sectioning your models hair, in this case I wanted volume on the top and the bottom to come upwards into a chignon.

4.       Always start with the top section of hair so you can get as much lift as you need.

5.       Use the size of roller you require and roll your hair around it, using the pin tail comb to get all the wispy strands in.  Secure with a grabbie.

6.       Set the whole head in rollers, making sure all the hair is on a roller.

7.       Once cool, remove them all and brush the curls.

Unfortunately I didn’t capture a photo of my heated rollers, but this picture is the same set out as I had mine, just with normal rollers instead.

Design for Simple

This is  my design for my simple hairstyle, I chose a long side ponytail, with the hair coming back off the face.  I then sectioned the ponytail off with hairbands, and sprayed gold hairspray around each one.

This is my make up design below.  I chose a soft brown for the eyeshadow and very light contour, as not a lot of make up would've been available.  I still kept the red lip though as this is very popular for brides.

Story for Simple

This is my story for my simple hairstyle

I have still chosen my Caucasian model for this hairstyle and she is still modelling for the bridal part in the Indian fashion magazine.  Instead of her having lots of money to spend on her wedding, she has very minimal and has to do her own hair.  However, she is not bothered about things like that, as long as she is with the person she loves the most - her husband.  Materialistic things like hair and make up didn't matter.

Inspiration for Simple

For my inspiration for my simple design, I looked at Princess Jasmine from Aladdin.  Although she is a Princess and is wealthy, I find her hairstyle very simple.
 
I also looked at Aishwarya Rai in The Mistress of Spices.  I noticed that her hair was in a simple ponytail throughout the film and the were not a wealthy part of the country.

It is important to avoid pins with bobbly ends because the stick through the stocking cap and they are hard to pin through into the hair.  You also need to put thicker pins around the edges so the wig is definitely secure.

If the hair line is lace you won’t need to use your own models hair unlike me.
